The term of office for a governor is 4 years, except the headteacher governor which is 2 years.

The term of office for the chair, vice-chair and chair of committees is one year.

*The LA Governor is appointed until the appointment of their successors, which can take place at any time following the County Council and Local elections,

usually four years.

 

Committee Terms of Reference

 

Admission:

 

To prepare, adopt and review admission arrangements for the school;

 

To consult upon and publish the admission arrangements;

 

Appraisal:

 

Clear and consistent assessment of the overall performance of school employed staff, including support staff, teachers and the headteacher, and for supporting their

development within the context of the school's plan for improving educational provision and performance, and standards applicable to the post.

 

Finance:

 

In consultation with the Headteacher, to draft the first formal budget plan of the financial year

 

Establish and maintain an up to date 3 year financial plan

 

Consider a budget position statement including virement decisions at least termly and to report significant anomalies from the anticipated postion to the Governing Body

Ensure that the school operates within the Financial Regulations of the County Council

 

Monitor expenditure of all voluntary funds kept on behalf of the Governing Body

 

Annually review charges and remissions policies and expenses policies.

 

Make decisions in respect of service agreements

 

Make decisions on expenditure following recommendations from other committees

 

Ensure, as far as is practical, that Health and Safety issues are appropriately prioritised

 

Determine whether sufficient funds are available for pay increments as recommended by the Headteacher

 

In the light of the Headteacher Performance Management Group’s recommendations, to determine whether sufficient funds are available for increments

 

Pupil Progress & Curriculm:

 

Consider and advise the governing body on standards and other matters relating to the school’s curriculum, including statutory requirements and the School's

Curriculum Policy

 

Consider curricular issues which have implications for Finance and Personnel decisions and to make recommendations to the relevant committees or the Governing Body

Make arrangements for the Governing Body to be represented at School Improvement discussions with the LA and for reports to be received by the Governing Body

Oversee arrangements for individual governors to take a leading role in specific areas of provision, eg SEN, Literacy, Numeracy. To receive regular reports from them and

advise the Governing Body.

 

Oversee arrangements for educational visits, including the appointment of a named co-ordinator 

 

Staff Dismissal:

 

Hear appeals against initial decisions of the Staff Dismissal Committee or the Headteacher about matters relating to the discipline of staff, dismissal of staff, other

terminations or staff redundancy in accordance with the adopted policies.

 

Uphold or dismiss an appeal.
