Unit 1A Ourselves
We learnt about our senses and how we can use them to explore the world around us. We also learnt that humans and other animals move and grow.
We were able to identify and locate parts of our body, including sense organs; we recognised changes that take place as animals get older; we used our observations to point out differences between humans and other animals and between animals and non-living things and communicated observations and measurements.
We have eyes to see. We have ears to hear. We have a mouth to taste. We have a nose to smell. We have skin (and especially our hands)to feel. How many senses altogether?
Autumn
Autumn is the sight of colourful leaves fluttering to the ground, the leaves ghostly through the wind.
Autumn is the sound of birds tweeting beautifully and baby crows crying for their food.
Squirrels cracking their nuts and boys and girls playing in the leaves.
Autumn is the smell of apple pie and apples just being picked the smell of flowers just about dead.
Autumn is the touch of little crunchy leaves and soft pears.
Autumn is the taste of cherries apples ad juicy pears. Crunchy leaves between my fingers.
Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian painter. He painted heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books. Can you see the fruit and the vegetables in paintings?
We have been learning about the continent of Africa. There are lots of animals in Africa and we have been helping to create a large collage of an African scene.
We have made drums using flower pots. We have tie-dyed some cloth. The cloth is stretched tightly over the flower pot. The cloth is fixed tightly with a red rubber band. The cloth is stretched taut (very tight) and we can tap a rhythmn on the drum.
Unit 1D Light and dark
We developed our understanding of the need for light in order to see things. We learned that darkness is the absence of light and that in the absence of sunlight other light sources are seen more easily.
We were able to name a number of light sources, including the Sun; we have recognised that we can’t see in the dark; we have described and compared some light sources and have explained why it is dangerous to look at the sun.
We are Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
